How do I move PaperTin to a new phone?

PaperTin has no account, so your bills move with a backup file. It takes a minute, and you need both phones.

  1. On your old phone, open PaperTin and go to Settings → Export backup.
  2. Save the file somewhere your new phone can reach: Files or iCloud Drive, a cloud drive, AirDrop, or an email to yourself. The file name ends in .papertin.
  3. Install PaperTin on the new phone.
  4. Go to Settings → Import backup and choose the file. Your bills, their pages, categories and settings come across.
  5. Open a few bills to check, then delete PaperTin from the old phone if you like.

The backup isn’t encrypted, so keep it somewhere private, and delete copies you no longer need. Under Export backup, Settings shows when you last made one.

How do I restore a backup?

Settings → Import backup, then pick the .papertin file. Importing replaces everything on this phone with what’s in the backup, so if you’ve added bills since, export a fresh backup first.

If PaperTin says the file isn’t a PaperTin backup, check you picked the right file and that it finished downloading. If it says the backup is from a newer version, update PaperTin from the App Store or Google Play and try again.

Why didn’t a reminder arrive?

Work down this list:

PaperTin didn’t read my bill properly

PaperTin reads on your phone and fills in what it finds; you always check before saving. Flat paper, good light and the whole bill in the frame help. A PDF from the shop reads best. Anything PaperTin misses, you can type in, and the photo is kept either way.

How do I delete my data?

Backup files you exported stay wherever you saved them; delete those there. The app sends us nothing, so there’s nothing from the app to delete on our side; ask us and we’ll delete your support emails. More in the privacy policy.
